The Church of St James the Great is in the village of Melsonby, near Richmond, N. Yorkshire. The building dates from 1135 and is Grade II listed. Its oldest bell is from 1370, and the project involves upgrading the church tower to support two newly cast treble bells by John Taylor & Co, and to create a full ring of eight tuned bells. After the installation, the aim is to train local volunteers and non-ringers to preserve the ancient tradition of bell ringing in the village.

Fund-raising over the last few years has finally enabled building work to begin in late October 2026.
Melsonby has no village hall, so in recent years the church building has been adapted to function as a wider social space, adding a kitchen, toilet, and meeting room. The church hosts a Community Café on Fridays, a visiting Post Office, and village events.

Sally-Ann and her husband Peter are now Melsonby residents, having moved up from London in 2024. They are delighted to be contributing to the Bells Project by presenting a light-hearted evening of opera favourites and songs from the shows with their baritone friend, Trevor Alexander.
